This resource is provided by the National Resource Center for Materials Technology Education (MatEdU) and is the third chapter from the MatEdU Science Educational Handbook. This handbook is designed to offer flexibility and adaptability in teaching materials science education and training. Its numerous activities serve as practical demonstrations of scientific principles that can be integrated into any curriculum. The primary objective of the Handbook is to equip programs with the necessary tools to introduce materials science concepts effectively, while also providing high-quality instruction for further study in the subject.

Chapter 3 "focuses on composite materials, with sections appropriate for K-12 science and technology classes and for college-level programs." This chapter "looks at materials and components used in composite materials, manufacturing processes and design of composite parts in larger systems along with testing and evaluation procedures." The chapter includes the following units: Introduction to Composite Materials, Making Composites, and Advanced Composite Manufacturing. The chapter also includes instructors guides, instructor notes, and presentation slides.

An introduction, table of contents, additional chapters, and appendices of the handbook are available to view separately.
