Precision Agriculture - Lesson 2 Materials

Lesson Description:

This lesson is the second of three in the Introduction to Agriculture unit of a precision agriculture education series provided by Northeast Community College. These lessons are intended to teach "... broad scale concepts of precision agriculture, the components that make it possible, how it can impact farm management decision making, and data usability." The following are objectives for the second lesson:

• Learn about the differences and relationship between hardware and software.
• Lean about the different ways the Precision Agriculture is used.
• Learn how Precision Agriculture is useful for different scales of operations and how it can be used to fit the needs of their operators.
• Lear what inputs can be controlled using Precision Agriculture.
• Learn what maps are created using Precision Agriculture and how to interpret what the maps show.

Lesson Contents:

Lesson materials include an educator guide, a vocabulary list and worksheet; one presentation; one assignment; a word search; notes; a map review; and a quiz, study guide, and answer key. Most materials are provided in Word and PDF formats.

The 17-page Educator's Guide includes the following sections: Lesson Objectives, Vocabulary, Types of Hardware, What can be controlled, Scalability of Precision Agriculture, Types of Precision Agriculture Maps, Pros and Cons of Using Precision Agriculture, and Additional Resources. 

The 1-page activity has students search for and write a summary about new or emerging technologies for precision agriculture. The 1-page homework assignment has students research precision agriculture manufacturers. 

For orientation purposes the Precision Ag Lesson 2 Educator Guide.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this curriculum.
