This webinar, made available by Internet Scout Research Group, features Rachel Bower and Luis Perez discussing how educators can increase the accessibility of high quality materials for learners with disabilities. The presentation is geared towards all educators in order to make designing for accessibility easy to understand and implement regardless of the educator's technological skill level. A functional definition of accessibility is given along with descriptions of pertinent United States non-discrimination laws and statistics on education and job access for Americans with disabilities. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 from The National Center on Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) use the acronym POUR (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, Robust) to define the four qualities of an accessible user experience. Each quality in the POUR acronym is described in detail. The presenters explain how institutions can use AEM and POUR to design accessible educational resources. The presentation recording runs 01:20:18 minutes in length and presentation slides are included.
