Welding: Wisconsin's Ultimate STEM Pathway Curriculum

Collection Description:
This collection of STEM curriculum is provided by Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and includes PowerPoint lessons, hands-on activities, and interactive videos that can be used in a math trades class. Hands-on activities were created by welding and math instructors in order to engage welding students in their math classes. Most activities involve using hands-on tools and fabricated items as part of a "math kit". Videos were made in conjunction with the NEW Manufacturing Alliance at different manufacturing locations in order to show how math is used in manufacturing and more specifically welding. Information is provided for obtaining answer keys for video and hands-on activities. 

Collection Description:
Included materials in this collection are 16 documents related to 9 hands-on math activities, 10 documents related to interactive video math activities, and 14 PowerPoint lessons.

In addition to nine hands-on activities, a document of activity descriptions, an image of a math kit, and a document of math kit information is also included. Activity topics include whole numbers, fractions, decimals, measurement, integers, geometry, trigonometry, and more. 

The nine interactive video math activity documents include a link to the video, a video summary, company information, and video related questions. A document of video descriptions is also included. Video titles include: What Does Steel Rectangular Tubing Have to do with Math, What Does Weld Inspection Have to do with Math, What Does a Press Brake Have to do with Math, What Do Robots have to do with Math, and more. 

PowerPoint lessons may include objectives, discussion questions, and math problems. Lesson topics include whole numbers, fractions, decimals, measurement, pre-algebra, introduction to algebra, geometry, and triangle trigonometry. 

For orientation purposes 1 - Whole Numbers.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this collection.
