Module Description:

This module was created by the Center for Nanotechnology Education (Nano-Link) and includes an activity for students to learn about and practice the scientific method. During the activity students will use cellophane fish to test various hypotheses about why and how the fish react to a thin layer of sodium polyacrylate. "The goal of this activity is to engage students in observing a phenomenon, developing an explanation, testing the explanation, and revising as needed."

Module Contents:

This module includes a lesson guide, PowerPoint presentation, a short video, and a document that describes the alignment of this module with two learning standards.

The 9-page lesson guide includes an abstract, student outcomes, background information about the scientific method, an activity description and procedure, discussion questions, and more.

The video includes a short demonstration of the activity and runs 00:57 seconds in length. The PowerPoint presentation also includes information about the activity.

Versions in Spanish are also included for most of the module documents.

For orientation purposes ScientificMethodModule - Nano-Link.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this module.
