Cybersecurity for All

NSF ATE Securing the Future: Inclusive Cybersecurity Education for All

Cybersecurity isn’t just a career path, it’s a necessary life skill in today’s digital world. Every time you use social media, shop online, or play digital games, your personal information is at risk of being stolen or misused. Basic cybersecurity gives you the power to protect yourself and your friends from scams, hackers, and identity theft. Taking beginner cybersecurity courses can help you stay one step ahead from the burglars of the future. And who knows, you might even discover a passion for a career with high job security, is in high demand, and makes a real difference.

How Does This Work?

Sign up using the form below. We will use the information provided to help you on your road to becoming a dual credit student. After you are registered and attending classes we continue to provide unique opportunities like a free field trip to see how cyber security works in the real world, and a workshop lead by a cybersecurity professional to provide hands-on experience with cybersecurity technology.

Classes

Classes taught through this program are CYS 100: Cybersecurity Orientation and CYS 101: Cybersecurity Foundations. These are real credited college courses taught in an online format by our co-PI Ethan Coats.

Field Trips

Each semester we are invited by a company to bring our program participants on a trip to tour their facility, talk with their cybersecurity professionals, and learn what cybersecurity looks like for them. These trips are entirely paid for by grant funds, including food, any merchandise supplied by the school, and transportation from campus to the trip location. Our past field trip took us to Highbridge where students learned:

  • How physical security protects sensitive documents.
  • The role of employee training and certifications in security.
  • An inside look at overall security protocols in action.

Workshops

Each semester we offer an in-person workshop lead by a cybersecurity professional. These workshops are beneficial for gaining hands-on knowledge of cybersecurity technology and networking with other students and professionals.

Peer Mentors

While BCTC offers access to peer mentors through the Peer Mentor Lab, "Cybersecurity for All" offers a unique experience in its hired peer mentors. Our trained peer mentors have taken CYS 100 and CYS 101 already and will be there every step of the way. We will do our best to match students with mentors from similar backgrounds to help guide them through their individual experiences.
