What does a career in instrumentation look like? 

Instrumentation engineers and technicians are responsible for planning, installing, monitoring and maintaining control systems and machinery in manufacturing environments. They work with control processes that use sensors to provide feedback. As a result, they may have a role in designing and developing customer products.

  • The student only needs Algebra 1 level math for this career(not just for coursework)

  • Technician, entry level $60,000 per year

Four-year LA Tech ICET (Instrumentation Technology degree)

  • Foundation of basic concepts/fundamentals, not specific equipment

  • More troubleshooting and understanding of systems

  • Only applied calculus and one other calculus (not as much math as engineering) 

  • Supervisor level- starting around $65,000 per year. Provides opportunities to move up with a possibility of salary increase over time

What will this cost me?

This is a free program! The resources and curriculum are available at no cost. Now that the grant is no longer active, schools are responsible for any costs that may arise during implementation and the project can no longer provide stipends for participating teachers.

Who will be teaching these classes?

The teachers from your high school will teach you the lesson plan.

What is the starting salary for someone in this career? 

The starting salary is around $27.78 per hour, $57,790 per year.
