UNDERGRADUATE SWIP 

The summer workshop internship program (SWIP) will provide students an opportunity to engage in research under supervised guidance from a team of faculty who will be assisted by graduate student instructors. They will participate in research projects, present and publish in proceedings of conferences and learn to write journal articles.

SUMMER WORKFORCE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (SWIP)

 

Goals of SWIP

The goal of the SWIP is to train participants in industry relevant geospatial and STEM research projects. Participants from high schools and colleges will engage in cutting–edge research and be mentored by expert faculty at the BCC Geospatial Center of the CUNY CREST Institute and York College. Students will learn research methodologies, data analyses, perform literature review, and write technical reports / peer-reviewed journal articles and present research outcomes at conferences in the New York City region. 

 

Procedure of SWIP

Completion of SWIP Application (Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis so there is no official deadline).

Student will be matched with a mentor after acceptance to discuss research ideas. 

Student will complete an e-portfolio, which consists of objective of project, information of mentor and applicant, project description, methodology and deliverables.

Student will complete daily report of work done throughout 10 continuous weeks.

Student is required to create a presentation on their project and present at a conference. 

SWIP Project deliverables

• Detailed high quality tutorial/s (matching the style and design layout of world bank reports) describing the steps and screen shots for making the maps and projects.

• Technical report (20-30 pages) outlining and describing the entire project, outcomes and challenges

• 2-3 internship applications submitted by the mentee.

• Presentation at 1-2 conferences (details will be provided by the director of the NSF program)

HIGH SCHOOL SWIP

The goal of the SWIP is to train participants in industry relevant geospatial and STEM research projects. Participants from high schools and colleges will engage in cutting–edge research and be mentored by expert faculty at the BCC Geospatial Center of the CUNY CREST Institute and York College. High School students will learn to apply geospatial technology in research project in the cloud.  Upon successful completion of project student will receive $1,000 stipend.
