Fall 2018

BGCCCI attended the Annual NSF ATE PI Conference in Washington DC on October 23-25, 2018

Pathways to Geospatial Technology and Careers

The program is fostering education, research, and workforce skills by offering a series of intuitive year round workshops that promote spatial thinking, cutting-edge research internships in geospatial big data, and professional development programs for educators. In collaboration with a consortium of industry, new courses, programs, and out-of-the-box internships are being designed to create pathways in geospatial technology and careers.

ASAP Networking Event

BGCCCI attended the ASAP Networking event on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 3:00PM-5:00PM at Bronx Community College: Gould Memorial Library Rotunda

The event was organized in a way that students were able to meet and talk with professionals working in a field related to their chosen major. For instance, as the BGCCCI representative, I was sitting with students interested in technological fields. I was able to bring to their attention the courses (GIS 11 and 12) that we offer during the Spring and Fall semester, which can be taken on-campus and/or online. Some of them were very keen in learning how this technology can be used in their careers and once I showed them a 3D simulation of the BCC campus, they showed a lot of interest to take any of these courses in their upcoming semesters.

BGCCCI Director attends the NASA Mega PI meet in Cleveland Ohio 8-9th August, 2019

Honored to be invited by NASA to attend the NASA Mega Principal Investigators meet in Cleveland, Ohio. Met with amazing colleagues from across the country and engaged in great discussions with NASA officials. Great to meet MISTC team members and Roslyn and Diego. Felt amazing to be part of the 'WE GO' Panel discussion with NASA Administrators - Michael Kinkaid, Kenneth Bowersox and Dennis Andrucyk who shared their vision for Moon to Mars expedition.

Great to have a one-on-one with Michael Kinkaid even though if it was on a bus to NASA Glenn Center, meet with Torry Johnson, Daesha Roberts, Joeletta Patrick and Sharon Fitzgerald. Great folks Great Engagements!

Used the opportunity to highlight great work done at City university of New York - BCC campus through the BCC Geospatial Center of the CUNY CREST Institute [BGCCCI] and current federally sponsored programs funded by NSF-ATE and NASA-MISTC and the industry.
