Welcome to the ATE Central Connection! Published the first Monday of each month, the ATE Central Connection is meant to disseminate information to and about ATE centers and projects, providing you with up-to-date ATE news, events, reminders, as well as highlighting new centers, projects, and resources. In addition, we will also highlight an educational topic with complementary resources found within ATE Central to help illustrate how ATE resources can be used in the classroom.

We want the ATE Central Connection to be a valuable tool; please e-mail info@atecentral.net with any suggestions about how to make the ATE Central Connection more useful for you or to suggest any information you would like to see in an upcoming issue.

3d Printing: Manufacturing by Design

http://nextgenmfg.org/login/index.php

This curriculum development resource, provided by the Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing (RCNGM), contains valuable information and reference material on 3d (three-dimensional) printing. This page includes a video, a list of 3d printing resources and online tools, as well as links to several individual modules related to 3d printing. This "model curriculum" is designed to introduce the current state of the art in 3D printing, how it works, how it's used and how it may lead us into the future of personalized manufacturing. The curriculum is designed to be used in a "blended" learning environment with a teacher and students utilizing the online resources in a classroom or lab. Users must create a free login before viewing this resource.

Community Connection

Welcome to ATE for New Projects and Centers

ATE Central would like to take this opportunity to welcome new ATE projects and centers! With the ATE PI Conference just a few short weeks away, projects and centers old and new will get the chance to connect with one another - sharing experiences, collaborating, and learning together. For those of you who are new to the ATE community, there are a variety of resources to help support the work of your project or center – from evaluation to dissemination.

EvaluATE
EvaluATE acts as the evaluation resource center for the ATE program. They provide a variety of useful resources and activities for grantees related to evaluation. Check out their site to visit the resource library or sign up for an upcoming webinar.

ATETV
Visit this site to find a diverse range of freely available video content – both full segments and clips that highlight a variety of ATE related topics from automotive to nanotechnology.

ATE Central
Our own ATE Central site provides support on outreach and dissemination techniques, archiving support, an ATE events calendar and much more. For more ways that ATE Central can assist your project or center, be sure to check out the ATE Grantees section of the What Can ATE Central Do for Me? page on ATE Central.

Getting Started Workshop
New community members should also make sure to attend the “Getting Started” workshop at this year’s PI conference. This workshop is recommended for all principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and other team members looking for a smooth transition to ATE. The workshop will cover ATE program issues, financial management and grant management, and evaluation. ATE Central will be presenting at the session, so feel free to ask any questions you might have there or come visit us at our showcase booth (#002).

ATE Success Tips: Social Media

How often should your project or center be posting on Facebook?

These days, most organizations have a presence on Facebook. And most of us know that one of the keys to successful use of social media is regular posting of new and interesting content in order to engage followers and attract new ones; but how much is "regular" exactly? According to Jan Rezab, the CEO of Socialbakers, there is no exact ideal number, but there is a range. The optimal number of posts is between 5 -10 per week, so, if your project or center is averaging around one post a day, you're in great shape! Remember, if you would like to post to social media when you're out of the office, there are numerous tools at your disposal. Try a resource like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck to schedule your post. These sites are very user-friendly and will make it easier to accomplish your posting goals.

Student Union

Did You Know?

Tennessee has the first statewide program in the U.S. to offer tuition-free community or technical college for every high school graduate who meets the criteria. The program is known as the "Tennessee Promise," and it is similar in structure to the program that President Obama would like to implement on a national level. For more information, check out this article from the Christian Science Monitor.
