The Experiential Learning Center (ELC), of Foothill-De Anza Community College, began with the Scenario-Based Learning in Technical Education project, funded by National Science Foundation to design, develop, implement, and test an experiential learning model as a capstone course for technician level IT students in a hybrid environment. The model is based on the Story-Centered Curriculum currently employed at Carnegie Mellon University-West, with adjustments for the community college population. Beginning in 2009, the ELC began work on their current initiative, Destination: Problem-Based Learning Project, to further research the challenges of implementing SBL instruction in technician education and continue to grow its library of scenarios on topics from biotechnology to engineering to network security for educators. On the site, visitors can find out more about the project and the learning model that it is based on. There are also helpful sections to help educators use, create, and evaluate scenarios in their own classrooms.
