Integrating GIS in Technologies Curricula (TEC GIS) is a project of the Advanced Technological Education program of the National Science Foundation. This project, from Mountain Empire Community College (MECC), has six goals: 1) integrate GIS in the environmental science, forest science, and computer aided drafting and design A.A.S. curriculum at MECC; 2) increase the number of A.A.S. students at MECC who complete the GIS Certificate and Wise DEVELOP internships; 3) provide professional development opportunities to prepare faculty to use GIS in the classroom; 4) expand career exploration opportunities for public school students; 5) develop laboratories for GIS instruction in the public schools and community college; and 6) articulate GIS curricula to provide seamless pathways for students to pursue increasingly advanced study in GIS, beginning in the public schools and continuing to Baccalaureate programs at area four year colleges and universities.
