These presentations were held at the 2025 Annual BEST Institute: Ensuring Sustainability: Energy Efficient Buildings & Technician Education.
The first presentation is from Jamie Kono, engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Kono shares U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) resources for HVAC workforce development, beginning with identifying workforce challenges and discussing the development of skill standards and open source curriculum to address those challenges. The second presentation is from Jeff Polk, EnergySmart Academy Director at Santa Fe Community College (SFCC). Polk discusses the EnergySmart Academy's hands-on learning opportunities, program goals, and impact on the HVAC workforce in New Mexico.
