ATE Impacts: Sinclair Community College

This video, from Internet Scout Research Group, features Annette Parker and is intended to accompany the 2024-2025 ATE (Advanced Technological Education) Impacts book. This book showcases the important role that two-year community and technical colleges play in building the skilled technical workforce and provide evidence of the United States' critical economic need for technician education. The accompanying videos created in collaboration with Vox Television share the experiences of ATE alumni (students, administrators, educators, and industry partners) and the profound impact of ATE initiatives on their lives and careers. This video focuses on the STEM Guitar Project, a classroom guitar building workshop created with ATE funding by Thomas Singer, retired professor of mechanical engineering technology at Sinclair Community College. The STEM guitar project helps students understand math through hands-on experience and has spread to 48 states. Singer goes over the program's development, highlighting how ATE funding was used to train faculty so that the program could be adapted to other locations. The video features testimonies from students and faculty along with the project's therapeutic application in helping veterans manage post traumatic stress disorder.
