Kingsport Technologies: Technical Report
This 24-page report, from Dobyns-Bennett High School, describes the design and construction of the underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) created by the Kingsport Technologies team for the Ranger Class of the 2023 MATE ROV competition. MATE ROV is a global competition that challenges STEM students to build underwater ROVs to complete challenges. The competition is split into the following classes based on build complexity: Explorer, Ranger, Pioneer, Navigator, and Scout.
The report begins with an abstract introducing Kingsport Technologies and their ROV followed by a discussion of project management. Next the report covers safety, discussing electrical and structural safety and including the following three checklists: safety checklist, safety procedures, and electrical and structure safety procedures. The design rationale section provides an overview of the construction of the team's ROV, highlighting innovation, problem solving, systems approach, vehicle structure, vehicle systems, control/electrical systems, propulsion, buoyancy and ballast, and more. Also covered is testing and troubleshooting, budget and accounting, and acknowledgements. A systems integration diagram (SID) is included.
Manuals for each competition class and technical reports from other teams are available to view separately.
