Kelpie Robotics: Technical Report
This 22-page report, provided by the University of Ottawa, describes the design and construction of the underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) created by the Kelpie Robotics team for the Explorer Class of the 2023 MATE ROV competition. MATE ROV is a global competition that challenges STEM students to build underwater ROVs to complete challenges. The competition is split into the following classes based on build complexity: Explorer, Ranger, Pioneer, Navigator, and Scout.
The report begins with an abstract introducing Kelpie Robotics and their ROV. Next, the report provides an overview of the construction of the team's ROV, highlighting mechanical components, manufacturing electrical systems, the team's server and client, control and communications within Unity, attachments, and mission-related tools. Also covered are team safety protocols and procedures, vehicle safety features, project management, company organization, code management, project cost and budgeting, and conclusions. The report includes appendices related to electrical design, task management, and budgeting and costs.
Manuals for each competition class and technical reports from other teams are available to view separately.
