Cool Retrofits for Homes: Strategies to Save Energy, Improve Comfort, and Boost Resilience to Heat

This presentation, provided by the Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Center, is from the BEST Center's 2022 Annual Institute. During the presentation, Ronnen Levinson, from the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, discusses extreme heat and ways to increase resiliency against it, with a particular focus on homes. Levinson provides a brief background on extreme heat and highlights domestic and international projects working to counter it, such as Cal-THRIVES, which focuses on increasing heat resiliency in underserved areas vulnerable to extreme heat. Levinson discusses a variety of strategies for increasing heat resiliency and reducing heat in homes alongside an examination of cool-walls, including their materials and ability to lower outside air temperature.

This video runs 20:54 minutes in length. Additional videos from the BEST 2022 Institute are available to view separately.
