Decarbonization with Grid Interactive Efficient Buildings
This presentation, provided by the Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Center, is from the BEST Center's 2022 Annual Institute. In the presentation, Mary Ann Piette, director of the building technology & urban systems division at Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, examines the function, benefits, development, and other issues around Grid-Interactive Efficient Buildings (GEB). Among other points, GEBs prioritize automatic communication between buildings and energy grids for flexible energy use and optimization. Piette discusses the many facets that define GEBs alongside their benefits, ways to make existing buildings more grid interactive, outlook for GEB innovation, and more. The presentation also provides a brief history of factors that have motivated developments in the building science industry.
