This 12-page resource, from the ATE 2.0: Preparing Technicians for the Future of Work project, provides a framework for a cross-disciplinary STEM core. This paper describes why a cross-disciplinary STEM core is needed (the global workforce is evolving and jobs will change), its' components, and how it can be adopted.

The evolving workplace will require cross-disciplinary workers. To meet changing needs, workers may need to know specific knowledge and skill areas to become "future-proof STEM technicians." The project team conducted interviews and gathered data from regional convening of academic partners and industry leaders." These efforts resulted in a "... categorization of cross-disciplinary topics that educators and technician employers identified as essential skill areas for associate degree technician programs ..."

The following three skill areas make up this cross-disciplinary STEM core: data knowledge and analysis, advanced digital literacy, and business knowledge and processes. Scenario-based instructional cards, that correspond to the three skill areas, are available to view separately. Users must provide their name and email address to access these free resources.
