Lesson Description:

This resource is the eighth lesson in a series of nine from the Vocational Math: Contextualized for Construction course that was taught at Madison Area Technical College. This lesson introduces students to the concepts of % slope, pitch per foot, and total fall in the context of sidewalk concrete work. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Given one item (% slope or pitch per foot or total fall) calculate the other two.

The expected total time for the lesson is 45 minutes. Students will need a Construction Master Calculator to complete the lesson.

Lesson Contents:

Lesson materials include one student lesson, one completed lessons from class, instructor notes/guide, and one homework key. 

The 3-page student guide includes objectives, problem situations, and practice/homework questions.

The 8-page instructor guide includes prerequisite assumptions, competencies, notes, objectives, answers to problem situations, and more. 

For orientation purposes Lesson-8-Sidewalk-Layout-Problem-Student.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this learning module.
