Adhesives Activities

Description:

This collection of learning resources, made available by the STEM Guitar Project, are activities on adhesives. Topics covered include: the history of glue, types of glue, chemistry of adhesives, strengths of different glues, applications of adhesives in guitar construction, and more. 

Contents:

This collection includes a document that features a collection of activities, an additional activity, an example timeline, and presentation slides. 

The document titled A Sticky Situation: A Suite of Lessons on Adhesives for the STEM Acoustic Guitar Grant is a collection of lessons containing "several adhesive-themed activities that may be used together or separately, and can be easily modified for a variety of grade levels." Lessons included in this document are:

• Chemistry of Adhesives
• Visualizing Viscosity of Glues
• Strength That Sticks
• Sticky Scenarios

In the activity The History of Glue: A Timeline Activity, students research the history of glue, explore different types of glue, and create a timeline related to key events. 

The presentation A Sticky Situation: Types of Adhesives with Applications to Acoustic Guitars provides background information on different types of adhesives and their application to acoustic guitar construction. 

Timeline: Sticking to History is a 2-page example timeline of the history of glue from 70,000 BC to 1947 AD.

For orientation purposes Sticking to History Timeline Activity.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included with these resources.
