This 8-page resource, made available by the STEM Guitar Project, is an activity on the geometric design of guitar bodies. During the activity students will determine the total surface area of a guitar body by "measuring, calculating, and combining the individual areas." The learning objectives for this activity are:
- Students will apply polygon properties and scale by creating a scaled drawing of a guitar shape, dividing the irregular guitar shape into polygons and circle sectors, then measuring, calculating, and combining the individual areas.
- Students solve real-world mathematical problems involving the surface area of two-dimensional objects by determining the total surface area of a guitar body.
The resource consists of the following sections: Learning Objectives, Standards, Materials Required, Safety, References, Activity, and more. An assessment for the activity is also included.
