Bridging Technical Skills Gaps between High School Students and Local Employers

This 12-page paper, from the Journal of Research and Technical Careers, discusses a study that was conducted to "explore how technical skills taught ... in Florida engineering and engineering technology-themed career academies fit technical skills desired by local employers in technology and manufacturing." During the study students, teachers, and industry representatives were interviewed. These interviews led to "several revelations regarding potential efforts to reduce the skills-gap commonly reported in the research literature."
