Part 2: Microscale Liver Tissue Engineering
This lecture from the iBioSeminars project is presented by Sangeeta Bhatia from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute covers research from Bhatia's lab to develop an implantable, engineered liver. She explains the challenges of co-culturing hepatocytes and the supporting cells necessary to keep the hepatocytes functional. Her lab has successfully engineered microscale human livers that are showing promise as a mechanism to identify drugs that are toxic to the liver and to study viruses and parasites that attack the liver. This video is the second of two parts, running 29:59 minutes and can be downloaded in QuickTime, MP4, M4V, or PDF formats and with subtitles. The video can also be streamed through YouTube or iTunes U.
