Austin Community College District (ACC), United Way, and Trellis Strategies partnered to support parenting students through the Parenting Students Project (PSP) — offering a scalable model to boost success for all ACC students. Impact Highlights: 95% retention rate (20-point increase) $1,000+ less in student loan debt per semester Stronger peer support networks Since fall 2021, PSP has supported 95 students and 137 children with child care scholarships, $500 monthly stipends, case management, and peer activities. The results from a year-long study of PSP indicate that targeted, student-centered support can break barriers, reduce financial stress, and improve outcomes. While the PSP remains a pilot program for parenting students, the lessons learned on support resources can be used to benefit all ACC students. Today, on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we celebrate the contributions of women scientists, engineers, and innovators who are shaping the future of manufacturing. Their presence in STEM fields continues to grow: The National Science Foundation (NSF) found that, in 2020 alone, women earned approximately 53,000 associate’s degrees, 375,000 bachelor’s degrees, 99,000 master’s degrees, and 17,000 doctoral degrees in science and engineering fields. Over the past decade, the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to women in these fields has increased by 34%, adding 96,000 more women to the STEM talent pipeline. From pioneering advanced materials to leading the way in smart manufacturing, women in science are driving the innovations that transform our industry. At WiM, we are proud to support their leadership and growth through initiatives like the Leadership Institute for Women in STEM and Manufacturing at Case Western Reserve University, which has helped over 100 women advance their careers since 2016. Join us in celebrating women scientists by recognizing their achievements, amplifying their voices, and inspiring the next generation of innovators in manufacturing! #WomenInScience #WomenInManufacturing #STEMLeadership #WiM #Innovation #Manufacturing

Wisconsin’s Registered Apprenticeship Program has set a record-high enrollment for the third consecutive year, with 17,089 apprentices participating in 2023, as announced during National Apprenticeship Week in November. Governor Tony Evers attributed this milestone to ongoing efforts to expand apprenticeship pathways and reduce barriers to work. The century-old program, the first of its kind in the United States, combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction, requiring employers to pay apprentices during both phases.
