The Materials in Your New TV: The Liquid Crystal Display
This seven-page guide provides a lesson plan introducing students to liquid crystal technology and the components of an LCD (liquid crystal display). This lesson combines a guided discussion with hands-on activities to demonstrate "key concepts at work in LCD materials technology." Students will be able to explain the process of making LCD glass, define what a liquid crystal is, and discuss the applications of LCDs. This lesson was designed for advanced high school and introductory college classrooms, and takes one class period. This instructor guide includes the following sections: Student Learning Objectives, MatEdU Competencies Covered, Equipment and Supplies Needed, Curriculum Overview, Module Procedures, and an Evaluation Packet.
