This website provides information pertaining to Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Fab Labs; Fab Labs, an abbreviation for Fabrication Laboratories, are the educational outreach component for the Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA) at MIT. A Fab Lab is a technical prototyping platform comprised of off-the-shelf, industrial-grade fabrication and electronics tools, wrapped in open source software and programs written by researchers at MIT for innovation and invention. Fab Labs, while originally intended to promote localized entrepreneurship, can also be used for project-based, STEM education in higher education classrooms.
