INTRODUCTION

Now that you know how to strip and attach wires, you'll apply what you've learned by wiring an AC circuit. Most of the electrical tasks that you do on a job will require the ability to properly strip and attach wires.

TROUBLESHOOTING VIDEOS

You will be introduced to some new components in this lab. Watch the following videos to learn how to troubleshoot these new components. Then, as you complete the lab, if you run into issues, use these videos to attempt to fix (troubleshoot) the problem yourself before asking for help from an instructor.

You will be able to reference these videos in future labs.

Light Bulb

Wire

2-Way Switch

Single-Pole Circuit Breaker

LAB INSTRUCTIONS

Watch the example lab video, and then perform the lab.

Do not worry if you don't understand all of the components yet. You will learn more about these in future labs or through experience as you wire the labs.

For this lab, you will:

  1. Wire the circuit as in the example shown in the video. If you're unsure about how to properly strip wire and hook them up then re-watch the videos on the "Wiring Connections" page. Lab expectations are listed in the rubric below.
  2. Wire the circuit per drawing AMAR-1200-03.  AMAR-1200-03 - Simple Light Circuit.pdf
If needed, individual schematic images can be found on the troubleshooting reference page for that component. (See the "Materials" section above.)
    NOTE

The brass screw of the light socket is the black (hot) wire.

The silver screw of the light socket is the white (neutral) wire.

    If wrong, wire it again.

  3. Show that your lightbulb turns on.
